Photo Mask
I created this image/photo mask by placing some pine needles on my scanner and scanning them as black and white line art.
Step 1. Download the needle pattern below by clicking on the image and a larger image will be available for download. Use your back arrow to return to these instructions.
Step 2. Select an image that you would like to add the mask to. The above needles file is saved as an indexed gif. Depending on what program you are using you may have to convert the needles to RGB before adding it to your photo. In this example I have used a turkey.
Click on image below for sample of finished product.

Step 3. Copy - Command C (Mac) Control C (PC) and paste Command V (Mac) Control V (PC) or drag the needles over your photo. In order to see the image below you will need to reduce the opacity of the needles. You can do this in Photoshop under layers. If the needles are too big or too small for your image, enlarge or reduce the needles (never enlarge your photo) or rotate the needles until you get the look you want. You will need to know how to reduce, enlarge and rotate in the program you are using. In Photoshop you will have 2 layers. The needles on the top and the photo in the background.
Step 4. In Photoshop select the layer with the needles. Use your magic wand tool (set the magic wand tool to contiguous) to select all the white areas or if your mask is inverted select all the black areas of the needles. While the black/white area is selected (it should have a dotted outline) click on the background layer photo so that the selection is now over your photo. Now select copy. Command C (Mac) Control C (PC)
Step 5. Create a New document. Command N (Mac) Control N (PC). In Photoshop it will remember the size. Select transparent background. Paste your image into the new background. Command V (Mac) Control V (PC). Add a drop shadow if desired and save your document.
