DPI OR PPI?

300 ppi or 200 ppi?

There is some debate over what is the best resolution.

DPI stands for Dots Per Inch. This terminology is for printing presses, laser printers and copy machines and the amount of dots used for each varies. If you look at a magazine or newspaper with a magnifying glass the tighter the dot, the higher the resolution.

PPI stands for pixels per inch, so if you call it PPI  you are correct. People use dpi and ppi interchangeably. It doesn't actually mean the same thing but serves the same purpose. With over 20 years in the graphics field, printers print everything from 36 ppi and up using 100 dpi up to 300+ dpi to make their negatives.

The color printers that I have used blend the colors together. If you are reducing the papers to print to letter size then 300 ppi is serious overkill. I tested a few of the 200 ppi papers and resampled them up to 300 ppi, the image became bigger without losing detail.

If you're concerned about quality, then think quality, not size!

Here's a bonus, the kits that have Illustrator art in them (if you have Photoshop 8 or above) you can open them and make them whatever size you need and add your own texture.

A positive spin on
Mother Goose Rhymes

Jack Sprat was strong and fat, for he drank milk and cream,
Ate vegetables and lots of bread,
And left his plate quite clean.

Jack and Jill went up the hill to get some good pure water, They brought it down into the town, And all did drink thereafter.

There was an old woman who lived in a shoe. She had so many children. She knew just what to do. She gave them milk with plenty of bread. And promptly at sundown she tucked them in bed. They dreamed sweet dreams til seven came round. They all were happy and all slept sound.

Old Mother Hubbard went to the cupboard to get her children some food. No flies were there, it was dusted with care and all things were wholesome and good.

Higgledy, piggledy, my black hen.
She lays fresh eggs for little men.
Little men eat every day
Some of the eggs
My hend doth lay.

Mary! Mary! My pretty Mary,
What makes your red cheeks glow?
With rest each day and outdoor play
And early to bed I go

Country Life

Why do you sniffle? Why so sad?

Is city life so very bad?

Would you rather raise the dickens

With the animals and chickens?

Does it not cause you to shiver

When you hear a roaring river?

Don’t you have a case of creeps?

When you know the willow weeps?

You must know, you trusting child,

That the country’s flowers are wild.

The country is the place you say,

Willow, willow, lack-a-day.
