Working With Patterns
This tutorial is made using Photoshop CS1. If your program does not support these features you may need to use different steps. Note: I make all my patterns in Illustrator because the colors are solid and I have more control over the spacing.

Step 1. Download the rose pattern above.

Step 2: Save the pattern under define patterns. Control Select ALL.
Shown above. Close the file. If you are a saver you can keep it as a PSD or PNG, but it is now part of your patterns.
*Note: if you decide to change the patterns, you will be asked to save before replacing with other patterns. If you don’t save your pattern then your new ones will be gone so it’s a good idea to keep the original.

Step 3: Open a NEW document or an existing background that has texture, faux or fabric look like above.

Step 4: Open the Layer Palette (shown above). Click on Background and it will convert this to Layer 0

Step 5: Go to Layer Style / Pattern Overlay (shown above).

Under Pattern Overlay choose the pattern you just added. Leave the size at 100 for this tutorial. If you like the way this looks then you can flatten and you are done. What I like to do is open the Bevel and Emboss, shown below.

Select Texture and scale it to 100% and now your pattern will rise off the page. Go ahead and flatten and save as a JPG and you are done.
